Leading through collaboration
As the lead organisation for the Care Talent Collective – a collaboration
with six other care providers in Surrey – we have become the main
provider of Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Surrey. This has
enabled over 50 people with lived experience of either a learning
disability or autism to shape, lead, and deliver training that challenges
assumptions and builds understanding of learning disabilities and autism
among health and social care staff across Surrey.
This year through the Care Talent Collective, we have:
•
Delivered over 200 Oliver McGowan one-day training sessions
•
Trained over 50 experts by experience to become paid co-trainers
(either for Care Talent Collective or for other providers)
•
Been named as one of five main providers of Oliver’s Training in
Sussex
Thank you so much for this amazing
training. You are making a big difference to
people’s lives. I have worked with people
with learning disabilities for many years
and at the training, I learned lots of new
things.”

One of our ACTIVE values is to be vocal, and we have shown
leadership across our networks to advocate for people we support
and our staff. Our CEO Maria Mills is the Chair of the Surrey Care
Association and member of the National Care Forum Board and
Leadership Board of the Surrey VCSE Alliance. We are also active
members of the National Housing Federation and Voluntary
Organisations Disability Group (VODG).
In February, a group of staff and people we support travelled to
Westminster to attend the National Day of Action for Social Care,
joining several thousand others to demonstrate for meaningful
action to address the national crisis in social care.
