Leading through inclusion
Being Inclusive is another of our core values,
and we have demonstrated our commitment to being
an inclusive organisation again this year.
This year we successfully renewed our Disability
Confident Leader status. This is a government-led
scheme which encourages employers to think differently
about disability and to take action to improve how they
recruit, retain and develop disabled staff. To become
a Disability Confident Leader, an employer must be
externally validated by an expert peer organisation.
In October, 140 staff and people we support attended
our Black History Month celebration. Staff prepared food
from their cultures, and enjoyed a performance from a
West African dance group.
We are leading the way in the care sector by publishing a
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Strategy
on our website alongside an annual Diversity Pay Gap
Report (the latter shows a small positive gender pay
gap). 28% of our Executive Leadership Team are from an
ethnic minoritised community, and 57% are female.
Our workforce profile has changed considerably
in recent years, with more than 20% of staff from
overseas. In response, we have set up a working group
which looks at ways in which we can be a more inclusive
employer for overseas staff.
Our annual Star Awards once again
shone a spotlight on the incredible
achievements of staff and people
we support, celebrating dedication,
creativity, and the everyday
moments that matter.
The event brings our whole community together,
reminding us of the importance of recognition and
shared celebration. This year we were joined for the
first time by Rebecca Paul, MP for Reigate, and Cllr
Sinead Mooney, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care.
